Delaware Tech Cuts Ribbon on Newly Renovated Terry Building on Dover Campus

DELAWARE – Delaware Technical Community College held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to celebrate the completion of its newly renovated Terry Building at the Charles L. Terry, Jr. Campus in Dover. Local and state officials joined the event to help commemorate the major renovation to the 66,350-square-foot building that created a new, “one-stop” Student Success Center and added a new learning commons, upgraded façade, and a renovated kitchen and café.
“The Terry Building is the flagship building on our Dover campus and the heart of our operations there, providing critical student services such as admissions, financial aid, veterans services, and advisement,” said College President Mark T. Brainard. “This much needed upgrade brings together the services students need in one convenient location, which saves them time they can instead devote to their schoolwork and other responsibilities.”
Funding for the renovation project was made possible by Senate Substitute 2 for Senate Bill 50, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by former Governor John Carney in 2019 to address longstanding deferred maintenance issues at the College. The Wilmington and Stanton campuses were the first to create “one-stop” student success centers as a result of that funding. The most recently renovated Student Success Center is located on the first floor of the Terry Building, along with the newly improved café, which offers not only food but also a convenient location for students to meet and study.
The most notable change outside the building is the upgrade to the building’s façade, which was recreated to be more welcoming and aesthetically pleasing with large, mirrored windows creating a grand entryway suitable for the campus’s main building. Additional improvements to the building include new restroom facilities and an upgraded HVAC system.
“The funding provided by Senate Substitute 2 for Senate Bill 50 has enabled us to make needed upgrades to aging buildings at all four campuses that would not have otherwise been possible,” Dr. Brainard said. “These improvements clearly have a positive impact on our students and their success. We are most appreciative of the support we have received from our governors, members of the General Assembly, and the community, including their advocacy and ongoing work on our behalf.”
